Sam Jejurikar, M.D. - Board Certified Plastic SurgeonBreast Lift (Mastopexy) is a commonly performed procedure in combination with breast augmentation or breast implant placement in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Plano, Frisco, McKinney and Allen, Texas. Breast lift rejuvenates the breasts by trimming excess skin and tightening supporting tissues to achieve a more youthful contour and shape. After a mastopexy, the breasts are higher on the chest and firmer to the touch. Breast lifts also reposition and reduce the size of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) which may have stretched or drooped.
Breast size does not change after a breast lift, nor does the fullness or roundness of the upper part of the breasts. Women who desire larger or more rounded breasts need to consider breast augmentation with a breast lift.
Women
who have experienced significant weight loss or who have had multiple
pregnancies often need to consider breast lift in combination with
breast augmentation. In general, women who have lost volume in their breasts, or wish to have rounder and fuller upper breasts need to consider breast implant placement. Silicone and saline implants are both utilized for this (for more information, refer to the section on silicone versus saline on Dr. Jejurikar's breast augmentation site).
Breast implants can be placed through the same incision utilized to perform the lift, and sometimes, can allow shorter incisions to be made for the breast lift. (for more information regarding incision, refer to page on breast lift without implants). Implants can be placed above or below the chest wall muscle, depending on the patient's anatomy.

After
surgery, the breasts are wrapped with gauze dressings, and you may need
to wear an elastic bandage or a surgical bra. After a few days, this is
replaced with a soft support bra, which is worn 24 hours a day for
about a month. The
breasts will probably be bruised, swollen, and uncomfortable after
surgery, but this will pass in a few days. Any numbness in the breasts
and nipples should lessen as swelling subsides. Stitches are removed
after one to two weeks, and many patients return before then. Patients are not allowed to resume a normal exercise routine until 4 weeks postoperatively.
